From a photography standpoint, the beach ceremony locations face west, which means afternoon and golden hour light arrives directly on the couple during the ceremony itself — a significant advantage over resorts where the ceremony faces east or is blocked by buildings.

The west-facing beach is your biggest asset here. A late afternoon ceremony ending around 4:30–5:00 PM gives you beautiful light during the vows and a golden hour portrait window immediately after. Don't waste it on cocktail hour — step away for 20 minutes of portraits first.

The garden and pool areas between the beach and the main building are often overlooked but produce some of my favorite portraits at this property — lush, textured, and lit beautifully in late afternoon. Don't skip them in favor of staying on the beach for the entire portrait session.
Excellence Playa Mujeres

The adults-only atmosphere means a calmer, more elegant environment on your wedding day. The resort is smaller than some competitors, which is an advantage — you can move between portrait locations quickly, leaving more time for images and less time walking.

The pier location is the strongest ceremony backdrop I've photographed in the Hotel Zone and Playa Mujeres area. If it's available for your date, prioritize it. Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen

Photographically, the resort has a boutique scale that I appreciate. Everything is close together, which means efficient portrait sessions. And the streets of Playa del Carmen are available as an extension of the portrait session — something unique to this location that no other resort on this list can offer.
