Cancun's Most Recognized
Destination Wedding Photographer
I am Victor Herrera — a Cancun-based wedding photographer recognised among the Top 16 wedding photographers in the world by the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP). With 18+ years as a photographer and 12+ years specializing in destination weddings, I have spent this time documenting love stories across the Cancun Hotel Zone, Isla Mujeres, Costa Mujeres, and the full length of the Riviera Maya corridor.
Cancun attracts couples from every corner of the world — and for good reason. The combination of luxury all-inclusive resort infrastructure, a Caribbean coastline that turns amber at golden hour, and a warmth of culture that Mexico uniquely offers makes this one of the most extraordinary destination wedding cities on earth. I have photographed the light here in every season, at every hour, at nearly every major resort — and it never ceases to be extraordinary when you know how to use it.
My approach is cinematic and documentary. I photograph your wedding the way a filmmaker approaches a story — with patience, intention, and the conviction that the most powerful images are the ones that feel completely true. No forced poses. No generic coverage. Just photographs that honor what your day actually felt like — the nervousness before the ceremony, the tears you didn't expect, the laughter that happened when no one was performing.
If you are planning a wedding in Cancun and want to understand why couples fly in from the United States, Canada, Europe, and beyond specifically to work with me — the portfolio answers that question better than any words can.

Why Cancun Produces
Extraordinary Wedding Photographs
Cancun is the world's most visited destination wedding city for reasons that go far beyond its beaches. The infrastructure of the Hotel Zone — with its concentration of internationally recognized five-star resorts, its proximity to Cancun International Airport, and its mature event services industry — means that weddings here operate with a precision and reliability that destination wedding planners prize above almost everything else.
But what makes Cancun photographically extraordinary is something more specific. The Hotel Zone sits on a narrow strip of land between the Caribbean Sea and Laguna Nichupté, creating a unique lighting environment where the warm ocean light and the cooler lagoon light interact in ways that produce golden-hour conditions unlike anywhere else I have photographed. The best images from Cancun weddings are made by photographers who understand this — not just by those who happened to be there.
- The Caribbean light at golden hour: Warm, directional, and consistently extraordinary in the 45 minutes before sunset
- World-class resort infrastructure: Hyatt, Ritz-Carlton, Planet Hollywood, Breathless, Excellence — each with distinct visual characters
- Beachfront ceremony settings: White sand, turquoise water, and Caribbean sky as natural backdrops requiring no enhancement
- Isla Mujeres proximity: A 25-minute ferry creates an entirely different visual universe for portraits or full island weddings
- Year-round accessibility: Major international connections from every corner of the world — making Cancun the easiest luxury destination to reach
- Cultural warmth: The genuine hospitality of Mexico adds an emotional warmth to weddings here that the most expensive European venues cannot replicate
Cancun doesn't just give you a beautiful location. It gives you light that does things photographers spend careers learning to chase.
— Victor Herrera · ISPWP Top 16 World · 18+ YearsThe combination of the Hotel Zone's position between sea and lagoon, the Caribbean latitude, and the particular way the sun moves across the Yucatan sky at this longitude creates golden-hour conditions that I have photographed hundreds of times — and that still produce some of the most extraordinary images of my career every single time.
The Cancun Resorts
Victor Knows Best
Every major resort in the Cancun Hotel Zone has its own visual character, its own light, its own architectural opportunities. Years of photographing here means knowing exactly where to be — and when — at every property.
The Clifftop Position
Hyatt Ziva sits on Cancun's most dramatic clifftop location — the northern tip of the Hotel Zone where the Caribbean opens up on three sides. Ceremony photographs here capture the full breadth of the sea in a way no other resort in Cancun can replicate. See Hyatt Ziva gallery →
Portrait Opportunities
The tiered pool terraces and oceanfront pathways at Hyatt Ziva create multiple portrait environments with the Caribbean as a natural backdrop. The golden-hour window here is particularly dramatic due to the elevated position and open western horizon.
Modern Architecture
Breathless brings a contemporary energy to Cancun wedding photography that distinguishes it from the classic resort aesthetic. The property's modern design, multiple ceremony locations, and extensive beach frontage produce photographs with a sophisticated, editorial quality. See Breathless gallery →
After Dark
Breathless is particularly impressive for reception photography. The property's lighting design and beachfront setup create evening images with a cinematic, high-energy atmosphere that captures the emotional peak of the celebration.
Vibrant Character
Planet Hollywood Cancun has a distinctly different energy from traditional luxury resorts — bolder, more vibrant, and more expressive. For couples who want wedding photography with personality and celebration front and center, this property delivers that energy in every frame. See Planet Hollywood gallery →
Beachfront Ceremonies
The wide beachfront and clear Caribbean water at Planet Hollywood create ceremony settings with a clean, open visual quality. The property's characteristic color palette also complements the Caribbean light exceptionally well at golden hour.
Architectural Elegance
The Ritz-Carlton brings a level of architectural formality to Cancun that appeals to couples seeking a more classically luxurious aesthetic. The property's manicured gardens, event ballrooms, and beachfront terraces create a visual environment of refined elegance. See Ritz-Carlton gallery →
Garden Ceremonies
The Ritz-Carlton's landscaped ceremony spaces are among the most photographically versatile in Cancun — the mature tropical gardens provide natural framing that softens and beautifies portrait backgrounds in a way that purely beachfront properties cannot.
Excellence Playa Mujeres
Located in the quieter Playa Mujeres zone north of the Hotel Zone, Excellence offers an adults-only luxury experience with one of Cancun's most refined ceremony environments — a private beachfront with extraordinary light conditions year-round.
Finest Playa Mujeres
Finest's contemporary architectural design, infinity pools overlooking the Caribbean, and extensive event infrastructure make it one of the most photographically versatile resorts in the entire region. The architectural lines create natural graphic elements that elevate every image.

What the Caribbean
Actually Does at 5pm
There is a specific quality to the light on the Cancun Hotel Zone at five o'clock in the afternoon that I have been studying for over a decade. The sun drops low over the jungle to the west, and its light travels sideways through the palm trees, turning everything amber. The Caribbean goes from turquoise to deep sapphire. The air cools slightly.
And the couples I am photographing, who have been nervous all day, finally relax — they remember why they came here, and their faces show it.
"I have photographed this light hundreds of times. I never take it for granted — because every time, in every couple, it produces something different."
This knowledge is what separates a local Cancun wedding photographer from a visiting one. I do not need to discover the best angles at the Hyatt Ziva or the timing of golden hour at the Ritz-Carlton beach. I am already positioned when the light arrives. Your portrait session captures magic rather than approximates it.
The additional variable that makes Cancun's light unique is the Hotel Zone's geography — a narrow peninsula between the Caribbean and Laguna Nichupté. The interaction of the sea-reflected light from the east and the warm directional light from the west creates a quality that photographers trained in other environments are genuinely unprepared for.
8 Things Every Bride Should Know
Before Planning a Cancun Wedding
From 18+ years of photographing destination weddings across the Cancun Hotel Zone — the real insights that make the difference between adequate and extraordinary.
Book Your Photographer Before Your Venue
This is the most common and most costly mistake in Cancun destination wedding planning. Couples lock in the resort first, then discover their first-choice photographer is already booked for that date. The best photographers in Cancun fill their calendars 12 to 18 months in advance — particularly for the November–April peak season. Your photographer should be the first call you make, not the last.
Protect the Golden Hour in Your Timeline
The 45 minutes before sunset at your Cancun resort will produce your most extraordinary couple portraits. This window is not flexible — it happens at a specific time and it ends. Do not let your cocktail hour, reception setup, or family portrait session eat into it. A good photographer will help you build your entire timeline around protecting this window. It is worth every other compromise.
Ask Specifically Which Resorts Your Photographer Has Worked At
Every major resort in the Cancun Hotel Zone is a completely different photographic environment. The Hyatt Ziva photographs nothing like the Ritz-Carlton. Breathless photographs nothing like Planet Hollywood. Ask specifically which properties your photographer has experience at — not whether they have photographed "in Cancun." Venue knowledge is not transferable between properties.
Consider Isla Mujeres for Your Portrait Session
Isla Mujeres is 25 minutes by ferry from the Cancun Hotel Zone and offers an entirely different visual universe — cobblestone streets, colorful architecture, quieter Caribbean water, and a scale that creates naturally intimate portrait environments. A one-hour Isla Mujeres portrait session adds images to your gallery that could not exist anywhere in the Hotel Zone. Not all photographers offer this. Ask.
The Dry Season Is Best — But Summer Has Magic Too
November through April offers the most reliable conditions for Cancun wedding photography — dry, warm, and consistent. But the summer months produce extraordinary atmospheric skies, lush tropical vegetation, and post-rain light that creates something entirely different. If your date falls in the wet season, a photographer who knows Cancun will turn weather into atmosphere rather than obstacle.
Understand What the 15-Day Delivery Promise Means
The wedding photography industry's standard delivery time is 3 to 4 months. This means you return from your honeymoon, go back to your normal life, and receive your gallery when the emotions have significantly cooled. I deliver your complete edited gallery within 15 days — and a preview within 72 hours. When you receive your images, your wedding still feels alive. That is the point.
Plan at Least 90 Minutes for Your Portrait Session
Many Cancun wedding timelines allocate 30–45 minutes for couple portraits. This is almost always insufficient. The first 20 minutes are spent arriving, getting comfortable, and finding the rhythm. The best images from a portrait session come in the second half. Protect 90 minutes minimum — ideally ending at golden hour. Every minute is worth it.
Getting-Ready Photography Is Worth the Time Investment
Cancun's luxury hotel suites — particularly at the Ritz-Carlton, Hyatt Ziva, and Excellence — offer extraordinary getting-ready environments. Large windows, elegant interiors, and natural light create bridal portrait conditions that rival dedicated studio environments. Schedule enough time for your getting-ready coverage. These images belong in your gallery alongside every ceremony shot.

How Victor Photographs
a Cancun Wedding
I arrive at every wedding with three things prepared: deep knowledge of the venue and its light, a clear understanding of your timeline and priorities, and a commitment to observe before I direct.
My documentary instinct means I am watching for the moments that are already happening — the way your partner looks at you when you don't know I'm there, the exchange between your mother and your father when they see you in your dress for the first time, the quiet pause between the last guest arriving and the ceremony beginning. These moments are not repeatable and they cannot be constructed. They can only be captured by a photographer who is already positioned when they happen.
My cinematic vision means I am always thinking about light, composition, and the visual coherence of your gallery as a complete story. Individual great photographs are not enough. I want your gallery to feel like a film — to have a beginning, a middle, an emotional arc, and a resolution. Learn more on the about me page.
Cinematic Vision
Every frame considered for light, atmosphere, and visual weight — not just documentation.
Documentary Honesty
Real moments, real emotion. Your gallery reflects what your day actually felt like.
Natural Direction
I guide when guidance creates beauty. I disappear when reality is already extraordinary.

The Best Seasons for a
Cancun Wedding
Peak Season
The most sought-after window. Dry, warm, and consistent — average 26–28°C with virtually no rain. Clearest Caribbean skies of the year, the most reliable outdoor ceremony conditions, and the strongest international flight connections. Book 18+ months in advance for the best dates.
Late Dry Season
Excellent conditions, slightly more availability. Temperatures rise toward 32°C but humidity remains manageable. The sea is at its warmest and most turquoise. Beautiful golden-hour light with the additional warmth of late spring. 12 months advance booking recommended.
Green Season
Lush, dramatic, and significantly more affordable. Afternoon showers are common but brief. The tropical vegetation is at its most vivid, the skies are the most dramatic, and the resort grounds look extraordinary. Some of the most atmospheric images made in Cancun come from August weddings.
Hidden Gem Month
Increasingly popular among couples who know the insider advantages — lower prices, no crowds, and extraordinary cloud formations that create the most dramatic golden-hour skies of any month. Hurricane statistical risk peaks in October but actual direct impacts are rare. A genuinely underrated choice.
