Every major resort brand in the Riviera Maya eventually produces a property that changes what photographers think is possible in this region. Secrets Moxché did that when it opened in 2022. Not because it has the best beach, or the most famous brand, or the largest number of venues — but because it has two things that literally no other resort in the municipality of Playa del Carmen has simultaneously: a wedding gazebo on the 10th floor with the highest viewpoint in the entire city, and three man-made cenotes with a design so immersive it makes guests feel they are inside the Mexican jungle rather than a resort.
Those two environments — elevation and depth — produce completely opposite visual experiences. And at Secrets Moxché, you can have both in the same wedding day.
I am Víctor Herrera, ISPWP Top 16 World wedding photographer based in Cancún, covering all of the Riviera Maya including Playa del Carmen. This is my complete guide to getting married at Secrets Moxché — with a specific financial detail about the Sky Gazebo that no one tells couples until after they've already fallen in love with the view.
📍 Resort overview
Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen is an adults-only (18+) all-inclusive resort opened in February 2022 — the first 10-floor hotel in the municipality of Playa del Carmen. Located within Corasol, a gated community on the north side of PDC at Carr. Cancún–Tulum km 294. Approximately 40 minutes from Cancún International Airport and 10 minutes from Quinta Avenida.
485 suites · 8 pools · 3 man-made cenotes · 6 restaurants · 6 wedding venues · LGBTQ+ welcoming. The Impressions by Secrets section within the property offers a butler-included ultra-premium experience with rooftop infinity pool and private beach area — ideal for the wedding couple's accommodation.
No other resort or venue in Playa del Carmen offers a ceremony and reception space at this elevation. The panoramic Caribbean view from the Sky Wedding Gazebo and Sky Salon is genuinely unmatched in the region — there is no competition for this perspective within the entire PDC area.
Why Secrets Moxché Is Photographically Unlike Any Other Riviera Maya Resort
Sky Gazebo — Highest in Playa del Carmen
10th floor, 360° panoramic views, adjoning AC reception hall. The only 10-floor hotel in the municipality — the Sky Gazebo has zero competition for this elevated perspective anywhere in PDC or the surrounding Riviera Maya.
3 Man-Made Cenotes + 8 Pools
The resort is designed as a living cenote — stone pathways, lush jungle vegetation, lagoon-style pools that look and feel like the natural freshwater sinkholes of the Yucatán. Portrait environments here feel like a tropical National Geographic shoot, not a resort.
Cenote-Inspired Architecture
Dark woods and black finishes contrasting against turquoise pools and sea. The aesthetic is modern Mayan — sophisticated, earthy, entirely different from the white-and-tropical palette of most Riviera Maya resorts. Editorial and distinctive in every frame.
Impressions by Secrets — Butler VIP
The premium Impressions section within the resort offers butler service, rooftop infinity pool for Preferred Club guests, and a private beach area. For the wedding couple, Impressions accommodation produces getting-ready photography of a genuinely elevated luxury character.
10 min from Quinta Avenida
The resort sits in Corasol — a gated community just 10 minutes from Playa del Carmen's legendary pedestrian street. For guests who want to explore PDC's restaurants, nightlife, and boutiques, this proximity is a meaningful lifestyle advantage.
Fireworks Available
Secrets Moxché is one of the few Riviera Maya resorts that offers fireworks as a wedding add-on. From the 10th floor Sky Salon, a fireworks display over the Caribbean at the end of the evening is genuinely breathtaking — and photographically extraordinary.

The 6 Wedding Venues — Complete Photographer's Guide
Set on the 10th floor — the highest point of the only 10-floor hotel in the municipality of Playa del Carmen — the Sky Wedding Gazebo offers panoramic 360° views of the Caribbean Sea, the Riviera Maya coastline, and the surrounding jungle that no other venue in the entire region can replicate. The open-air gazebo deck is designed specifically for events, with a layout that accommodates ceremonies for 60–80 guests surrounded by nothing but sky and sea in every direction.
Directly adjoining the Sky Gazebo is the Sky Salon — a large, air-conditioned indoor reception hall for up to 150 guests with the same panoramic ocean views through its windows. This pairing is what makes the Sky space uniquely powerful: ceremony outdoors at elevation, reception immediately adjacent indoors — no moving the group across the resort. The transition from ceremony to reception takes seconds, not minutes. No logistical gap. No losing the energy of the room.
The additional supplement for this space is approximately $1,700 USD plus tax. It is charged on top of your wedding package. Confirm the current exact amount when signing your contract. The Sky Gazebo is the most requested venue at the resort — book early.
The Mystic Cenote Area is the ground-level counterpart to the Sky Gazebo's elevation — a sandy event space near the beach surrounded by the resort's cenote-inspired aquascape, lush tropical vegetation, and the unique atmosphere of the Yucatan's sacred freshwater systems recreated in architectural form. Described by the resort as "ideal for enchanting celebrations," it can be fully customized with décor and flowers, and creates an event atmosphere unlike any conventional resort beach or terrace venue. The cenote pools visible from the space reflect sky, plants, and event lighting in all directions.
The Beach Pergola is Secrets Moxché's largest ceremony venue — a private section on the side of the resort with a rustic wooden pergola structure over the sand and the Caribbean Sea as backdrop. At 200 guests maximum, it is the only venue at the resort suitable for large weddings. The natural wooden structure can be decorated with drapery and florals to create a more intimate ceremony aesthetic despite the large capacity. Note: a $250 USD government fee applies to all beach use — standard for Playa del Carmen coastal venues.
A wooden deck with a bamboo structure surrounding one of the resort's spectacular lagoon-style cenote pools — where the water looks and feels like a natural Yucatán freshwater sinkhole. The Pool Deck creates a relaxed, tropical atmosphere that allows the extraordinary design of Secrets Moxché's aquascape to become the backdrop rather than the competition. For cocktail hours and smaller receptions, this venue is consistently described as producing some of the most naturally beautiful event photographs at the resort.
For elopements and very small, intimate ceremonies, the expansive suite terraces on the upper floors of Secrets Moxché offer ocean views and complete privacy in an elegant, personal setting. The resort's contemporary suite design creates a sophisticated backdrop that works particularly well for minimalist, editorial elopement photography. Ask the coordinator specifically about which suite categories have the best terrace access and views for ceremony use.
The Ballroom is Secrets Moxché's primary indoor venue — a large, fully air-conditioned space with large windows, customizable lighting, and the resort's characteristic contemporary design language. It functions as both the large-group reception venue and the resort's primary rain backup option. Described as "a lovely enclosed space with refreshing AC and large windows that give you a fantastic ocean view" — the ballroom at Moxché has more architectural character than typical hotel ballrooms, thanks to the resort's strong design identity.
"The Sky Gazebo at Secrets Moxché is the only venue in Playa del Carmen where you can photograph a couple with the entire Riviera Maya coastline behind them. That perspective — horizon to horizon from the 10th floor — does not exist anywhere else in this region."

My Photography Strategy at Secrets Moxché
📸 How I approach a full wedding day at Secrets Moxché
The getting-ready session in Impressions suites. If you are staying in the Impressions section, book your getting-ready photography here — the suite design, the rooftop infinity pool access, and the elevated views create a genuinely premium portrait environment. The contrast between the lush cenote grounds below and the clean contemporary suite above produces two completely different visual characters within the same property.
The Sky Gazebo arrival sequence. If your ceremony is at the Sky Gazebo, I arrive 20 minutes before the processional to document the empty space and the view at that hour. Wide-angle establishing shots of the 10th-floor perspective before guests arrive are some of the strongest environmental images of the entire wedding day. The processional itself — with the couple appearing at the top of the final steps and seeing the horizon for the first time — is a sequence I specifically anticipate and position for.
The cenote portrait route. For couple portraits regardless of venue, I plan a 20-minute route through the cenote and pool areas at golden hour. The combination of reflective water surfaces, lush vegetation, and stone pathways produces portrait backgrounds with a cinematic, jungle-immersed quality unique to Secrets Moxché. These images look nothing like any other resort in the Riviera Maya — which is exactly the point.
The fireworks moment. If you add fireworks to your Sky Salon reception, I prepare specifically for the fireworks sequence — the combination of the 10th-floor elevation, the dark Caribbean below, and the fireworks above produces one of the most extraordinary celebration photographs available at any Riviera Maya resort. Tell me in advance so I can position correctly.
Golden hour is always the anchor. At Secrets Moxché, the Sky Gazebo at golden hour and the cenote pools at dusk are the two strongest photography windows. Protect 90 minutes before sunset in your timeline — at any venue.
Bringing Your Own Photographer — What to Know
Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen allows outside photographers. An outside vendor fee applies — confirm the current exact amount directly with the resort's wedding coordinator before signing your contract. Ensure your photographer's access includes all ceremony and reception venues, the cenote and pool areas for portrait sessions, getting-ready suites, and specifically the 10th floor Sky Gazebo and Sky Salon if that is your chosen venue.
⚠️ Sargassum — what to know for beach ceremonies
Playa del Carmen's beaches are one of the areas in the Riviera Maya most affected by sargassum, particularly from May through October. The resort clears the beach daily, but conditions vary. If a pristine sand backdrop is important to your vision, book your beach ceremony between November and April. Alternatively, the Sky Gazebo, Mystic Cenote Area, and Pool Deck are completely unaffected by sargassum — and for photography, offer more visually distinctive results than the beach.
The $1,700 Sky Supplement — what to negotiate
The Sky Events space supplement (~$1,700 USD + tax) is charged in addition to your wedding package. Some couples have successfully incorporated this cost into the overall package negotiation when booking significant room blocks. Raise it early in your coordinator conversations — before signing — and ask whether it can be absorbed into the overall event minimum. It is not always negotiable, but it is always worth asking.

What Brides Ask Me About Secrets Moxché
Is the Sky Gazebo worth the $1,700 supplement?
For most couples who are considering this venue, yes — but the answer depends on your priorities. If the panoramic Caribbean view from the highest point in Playa del Carmen matters to you, and if you value the seamless ceremony-to-reception transition (gazebo and Sky Salon are directly connected), the supplement pays for an experience and a photography perspective that genuinely does not exist anywhere else in the region. If you primarily want a beautiful ceremony without the elevation uniqueness as a priority, the Mystic Cenote Area and Pool Deck produce extraordinary photographs at no supplement. Be honest with yourself about what matters most.
How does Secrets Moxché compare to other Playa del Carmen resorts?
Secrets Moxché is a new category of resort for Playa del Carmen — the 10-floor height and the cenote-inspired design make it visually distinct from every other property in the area. The closest comparison for adults-only all-inclusive Playa del Carmen weddings is Rosewood Mayakoba or Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen — but neither has the Sky Gazebo's elevation, and neither has the cenote pool immersion that defines Moxché's design identity.
Is Secrets Moxché LGBTQ+ welcoming?
Yes. Secrets Moxché works with same-sex couples for all wedding celebrations. Most same-sex couples choose a symbolic ceremony (with legal formalities handled at home), but same-sex legal weddings are possible in Mexico with additional planning. All resort wedding services and amenities apply equally to all couples.
What is Impressions by Secrets?
Impressions by Secrets is a premium section within Secrets Moxché — a VIP experience with butler service, a dedicated rooftop infinity pool, private beach area, and elevated personalized services for guests booked in this tier. For wedding couples, Impressions accommodation produces significantly elevated getting-ready photography — the butler service, the rooftop pool, and the superior suite design create a portrait environment comparable to boutique luxury properties. Worth considering for the couple's own accommodation regardless of where the wedding events take place.

What makes Secrets Moxché unique for wedding photography in Playa del Carmen?
Two genuinely unique elements: the Sky Wedding Gazebo on the 10th floor is the highest wedding venue in the entire municipality of Playa del Carmen — no other resort in the region offers this elevated perspective. And the resort's cenote-inspired design with 3 man-made cenotes, 8 pools, and lush jungle vegetation creates portrait environments that look nothing like a conventional beach resort — more like an actual cenote in the Mexican jungle.
What wedding venues are available at Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen?
Six venues: Sky Wedding Gazebo + Sky Salon 10th floor (60–80 ceremony, 150 reception, $1,700 supplement), Beach Pergola (200 guests, $250 government fee), Mystic Cenote Area (120, cenote setting near beach), Pool Deck (120, bamboo structure, lagoon pools), Suite Terrace (intimate elopements), and Ballroom (200, indoor AC, rain backup).
How much does it cost to use the Sky Wedding Gazebo at Secrets Moxché?
Approximately $1,700 USD plus tax as of late 2023 — charged in addition to your wedding package. Confirm the current exact amount with the coordinator when signing your contract. The Sky Gazebo is the most requested venue at the resort — book early and ask whether the supplement can be negotiated into your overall package.
Can I bring my own photographer to Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen?
Yes. An outside vendor fee applies — confirm the current exact amount with the wedding coordinator before signing. Ensure your photographer's access to all venues including the Sky Gazebo, cenote pool areas, and getting-ready suites is specified in writing before the wedding day.
Is Secrets Moxché adults-only?
Yes. Adults-only (18+) all-inclusive. The Impressions by Secrets section within the property adds butler service, rooftop infinity pool, and private beach area for a premium VIP experience. Ideal for the wedding couple's accommodation regardless of which event venues are chosen.
